  • Nov. 29th, 2009 at 3:26 AM

Happy Brithday to myself!!

Yippe! I had a good time with my monnies, jax, kevin, Daphne & Jax's GF huili just now. Thanks GUYS for celebrating my birthday with me!

Cindy darl, thanks for the melody plush toy! I really LOVE it. It will stay with me till im married, have kids, retired & turn 'saggy'. haha....reiterating elaine's word, MF likes 'useless stuff'. -.- lol i cant help but agree i have a very soft spot for cute stuff. The main point is i dont like cute stuff so if i like it i really like it!!!! That explains why i bring this huge useless penguine from philip island simply bcos it is soft to the touch & most importantly it is round and CUTE!!!!

Sweets, Cindy & Elaine for spending their staurday with me despite having morning car rally, work, Jap Class, Visit to SGH...for the smile, the energy, the wishes, the company i express my hearfelt thanks & gratitude for such a nice bunch of worthy friends.

Besides my melody, i also receive a Shu Uemura rose face mist from the gals. ROSE! my favourite scent despite cindy calling it the ah pu nei nei smell and elaine called it- not my kind of scent and sweets who simply have no idea why i like it. hahaha...I think im gg to look very pretty for the new year! Thanks darl!!!!!!!!

Jax & Huili bought me a nice cute pink storybook entitled how to be a desperate housewifes. Most importantly one chapter spells ' BOBO housewife!'' , i guess that's what made jax wanna get it for me. It is a very thoughtful gift. Thanks jax!

Of cos i cant forget my muskis...long old friends that i dont have to describe in words but in short i really appreciate everything....not the presents nor the nicely DIY birthday cake...just simply u gals staying by mi side just warms my heart every single second. P/s: Thanks mabel for coming to the movie with me! Rain is SHUAI right!!!!!

Qinz, Thanks for the handmade card...from the little details it just show how much this person cares. Thanks & i swear i love all the cards u made for me over the years. Every year i notice a different style and every year you are growing & improving which im very happy.

can i also mention about the card that the monnies wrote for me?! For Sweets, thanks for the lovely msg! I read every single word and the happiest thing that a friend me knowing is the unselfish love and care. Thanks for the friendship, it means alot to me!

Thanks Mable, Qinz, Nan Ying, Sweets, Cindy, Elaine, Jax, Kevin, Daphne, HL, jessica for making me feel special.

Love you all & may we all grow old together.

Cheers!

Sometimes when it hurts, the feelings is definitely real.

The moment it stops hurting, that is the moment my love for you is real.

Love is letting go.

Pursuit Of Happiness

  • Sep. 20th, 2009 at 10:42 PM

By chance, i caught the film "Pursuit Of Happiness''.

I particularly like what Will Smith told his son chris..."if you have a dream, you gotto protect it. Dont let anyone tell you you cant do it.''

Good to have you!

  • Sep. 10th, 2009 at 5:52 PM

Today has been a bad day...had a bad day last night which is not worth mentioning.

Well, i was telling Mabel that im in bad mood and the first thing mabel did was instead of asking me a string of whys, she put a range of cute emoticons.

It makes me really touch.

I found it sweet bcos she doesnt do it often even if she did, it is on very rare occasion at times im really down.....

so...mabel can you bring me as your partner for your co. family day...& two upcoming weddings?

Are all lawyers that cute? My experience is YES!

I have this tiny soft spot for people who practices law.

Today i had a call from a lawyer from Australian, i think he practices law in South Africa before coming to Perth to work...the moment he speaks ..'' hi melody..'' i blushed.

i saw him once when he came over for Singapore two months back and my god he is so charismatic! You know how lawyers carry themselves..both in their dressing as well as their way of speech. Even their tone is clear, concise and gentle. i cant help but admire guys who can write in good written langauge.

really look forward to seeing him again next week.

Today i had lunch with HW and YJ. YJ had to dismantle my half roasted chicken for me as i was engrossed in talking with HW. How cute is that. I think at the back of his head he must be thinking this women is a child who cant eat properly. He again passed me two set of 'homework' to read. I guess i will never had the chance to stop learning with him around. :)

i wanna plan a time to meet up with HW, min min, youie, huiling, huishand for some good dinner together. Well, is their birthday season! Happy birthday to min min, hui wen zeh and youie (coming soon)....

is nice to have friends around you who makes you laugh and motivate you to be a better person.

When you stop knowing...

  • Sep. 6th, 2009 at 4:25 PM

i dunno if it's only me but do you have moments when you are sure of something really is?

i always thought life should be simple and i wonder how and why some people can makes something seemingly so simple seems so complicated.

i always thought people act and and behave what they truly are or at least 80% is if you are a professional and cant possibly act childish.

sometimes i thought i really know the person, i trust so much and yet over time you realise people change. It is either people do change or the fact that i choose to believe what i wanna believe.

SNAP!

Moving

  • Jul. 20th, 2009 at 1:25 AM

For the past one week, i have been tied up with the the 'move'.

Leaving office on average 9pm and once at 3am is no joke. Im glad the only physical damage ive done to myself is two ulcers & 'some' eyebags.

For the coming weeks, i wish to spend more time with my family and as well as with my good friends.

The Muskis, The Monnies!

Miss you all...thanks for the support and smses throughout this period. I dunno how to do it without the moral support! Thanks to you all!

Will blog when i have more free time.

p/s: Special thanks to elaine for getting me mr. curry minature plush!  How sweet can it be....:)

Btw, im looking for cute plush cushions for my seat and some bonsaid plants for my new desk.

Today onwards, i will be stationed in Jalan Kilang Barat. Kilang in melayu means Factory. -___- Having been to that place a few times, i have surveyed the 'fashion' level there is equitable to zero or negative. Im seriously comtempleting buying the new slippers (with those nice ribbons) from new urban male. I thought they r quite chio. The only thing stopping me is  the cost of 69.90. Till today i still refuse to buy any expensive footwear called slippers. No crocs nor havianas nor bikenstock for me.

Btw heard from the news today that crocs just went burst.

All i can say is thank you ...& thank you

  • Jul. 15th, 2009 at 11:59 AM

For sweets, cindy and especially Elaine for coming all the way from home to attend my 'farewell' from Tanjong Pagar.

Thanks for the thoughts and the arrangement.

Where else can i find such thoughful friends.

Unspoken feelings

  • Jul. 14th, 2009 at 12:23 AM

At certain point of the time when i dont think about work anymore, i start to miss people and my loved ones around me.

These feelings suffice once in a while in just a subtle way that caught me offguard.

Maybe i have neglected these feelings for a long time.

I have stopped loving.

i miss you bobby

if only i can turn back time

In Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s “Love in the Time of Cholera”, many types of love are exhibited including unrequited love, platonic love, obsessive love, innocent love and mature love. Set in South America in the 19th century, the author tells of Florentino Ariza’s great love for Fermina Daza - a woman he fell in love with at first sight. As a result of her father’s interference, Fermina has a change of heart and marries another man. Florentino spends the rest of his life trying to recapture that intensity of love with another woman. When Fermina’s husband dies he realizes this may be his last chance to be with her. After fifty years of unrequited love, Florentino declares his love once again to Fermina. They finally become lovers in the romantic setting of a riverboat.

While this may not be a conventional love story, the prose deals with the idea of love itself, and challenges conceptions about love only being for the young and beautiful. The author intended for all views and experiences related to love to pale in comparison to the true love acquired after heartache and over time. This is his way of not only making true love the primary focus of the narrative, but also of showing that the older and more experienced a person is, the more likely their love is to be lasting and real.

Because this is the primary theme of the story, the lack of dialogue is highly significant in that it is used as a way of conveying that mature love needs very few words to be expressed. Once love has matured, and the individual learning about love has matured from experience, then non-verbal communication becomes the most natural and fulfilling part of love. Florentino and Fermina spent "unimaginable hours holding hands in the armchairs by the railing, they exchanged unhurried kisses, they enjoyed the rapture of caresses." Accordingly, the author’s refrain from the use dialogue is not only a style choice but is symbolic of communication that comes from the heart; It is a way to depict the matured love of Fermina Daza and Florentino Ariza which is blessed with the wisdom and patience of age. In fact, at the end of the story when the couple is on the boat, they silently acknowledged their mutual love because "they had lived together long enough to know that love was always love, anytime and anyplace, but it was more solid the closer it came to death."

Long sections of the book are devoted to descriptive prose that conveys the inner thoughts and feelings of the characters far better than external dialogue ever could. At one point during their riverboat journey, as Florentino and Fermina paddle along the river, "the nauseating stench of corpses floating down the river," "the bogs of ashes" and "the vast silence of a ravaged land," are not only descriptive of the panorama, but are symbolic of the characters deep-rooted feelings about age. Though the description is written essentially as a parody, it is still far more communicative of the character’s beliefs than anything they could express verbally.

The extensive prose is also very telling about the setting of the story. For example, Florentino's elongated frock could be said to typify the extreme romanticism of the time. Along with the decay of aging experienced in the personal lives of Florentino and Fermina, the aging of South America and of the world in general is depicted at the same time. While drifting down the river, the couple is intimidated not only by the vivid and shocking images but also by the drifting away of time. The description of their surroundings demonstrates their feelings of loss and regret". . . the alligators ate the last buttery and the maternal manatees were gone, the parrots, the monkeys, the villages were gone: everything was gone."

Florentino and Fermina were able to fall in love with each other at the first sight because they were so young and innocent. Both were full of high enthusiasm and intelligence, both were rebels who acted impulsively and both were consumed by their irrational feelings. Not until they had experienced the pain of loss were they truly able to experience a healthy romantic relationship. Also implied is that when two people are truly in love, no matter how quick it happens or how unhealthy it is, the only pain to be found in love is the pain of separation. Therefore, true love cannot be destroyed by distance or difficult circumstances. When two people are in "true love", according to Marquez’ implications, no amount of distance, social pressure or conflict can keep a fated couple apart.

Despite all of the immaturity and fickleness as well as social pressures and family conflicts, Florentino and Fermina’s love manages to seem completely authentic and believable because of the author’s exceptional use of long-flowing prose and a distinctive absence of dialogue. In my opinion, this lack of conversation between the characters enhances the powerful message of the story by conveying the unspoken communication that is present only in the type of mature love Florentino and Fermina shared.
